Our AGM was held by Zoom on the 24th November.

With the continued easing of government guidelines relating to Covid-19, the SCF committee have decided to re-start the AC leagues. There are currently no restrictions that would disallow singles matches in each league taking place, providing guidelines covering social distancing while playing and travelling are met.

A number of clubs have chosen not to participate due to logistical challenges and constraints at home facilities.

Whether there is enough time to fully complete all the matches is a moot point. By restarting now however, at least some competitive matches may be salvaged.  Participating clubs should to follow a “best effort” approach to schedule and play their matches. Trophies will be awarded where a league is completed. 

The website has been updated with tables of participating clubs.

The One Court Clubs Handicap League leads the way with a local Basingstoke derby. All six teams have a full programme of matches and hope to complete by the end of August.
With the exception of the Handicap League, which continues to be affected by Covid restrictions, clubs in the remaining leagues are arranging competitive matches as and when they are able.

Sad news has been received from Thames Valley CC who report the death of their stalwart member Jim Pertwee on Friday 8 May at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. Due to the current restrictions there will be a private ceremony. A memorial celebration will take place when more normal times resume. Jim will be fondly remembered, not only by his own club mates and members of opposition teams, but also for his time as SCF Secretary from 2011 to 2014.

Further announcement(s) to extend this suspension period are likely to be necessary in the weeks ahead.

If you have agreed matches within this timeframe, please postpone.

If postponed fixtures can be re-arranged for a later date between the two clubs, all well and good.

All fixtures that are played, will continue to be regarded as fully competitive and the results will be recorded as such (including the submission of game results to the Rankings Officers where appropriate).

If, at the end of the season, a league programme is incomplete, a decision on awarding of cups will be made by the leagues managers.

It might well be that some/all will not be awarded for the 2020 season.

We don’t know how much of the 2020 season we are going to be able to salvage, but with the belief that ‘normal times’ will resume sooner or later, by preserving the already made fixtures, at least we will have a structure to the croquet season to return to when that time comes.

The GC league tables now refer to the 2020 ones – which are currently empty. The AC links are still to the old 2019 tables.

Following the 2019 AGM the constitution on the web has been updated as agreed.

The SCF AGM was held at 11:00 on 19 November 2019 at Winchester Racquets and Fitness.

Phyllis Court B beat Bransgore by 9 games to 7 in a tense final yesterday at Henley. The result hinged fittingly on the last game, 1 v 1 , Mike Fensome (0) and Brian Davies(6).
With Phyllis Court leading 8-7 either player could have won the league title for their team – a recurring theme of this year’s closely matched Handicap competition.
Unsurprisingly the game went to a very nervy hoop 13 before Mike could seal victory.
